"Guess Who" is a comic remake of the 1967 classic "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner." This time, the story is in the reverse as a Caucasian (Ashton Kutcher) wants to marry a black girl.
Bernie Mac steals the movie as the girl's father. Due to the story line, the sequences in the film become highly predictable. Naturally, the parents are about to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary. Naturally, there has to be a falling out which of course has to be resolved.
Just before the engagement is to be announced, Kutcher loses his investment job when he quits. The boss isn't thrilled about the pending inter-racial nuptials.
There is some stereotyping in the film. The girl hides the fact that her boyfriend is white and Mac tells everyone that the guy is a black man named Jamal who went to Harvard and is now a doctor.
Whether its 1967 or 2006, there is still a lot of sensitivity regarding inter-racial couples. The pictures tries to bridge all that but we come away with the feeling that we've seen a lot of this before.
