In order to better understand the term “peer leadership”, I’d like to first introduce the total concept of “multi-directional” leadership. This includes the “north”, or “upward” aspect of leadership, the “east and west” of peer leadership (both within and outside of a particular organization or group), and the “south” of “downward” leadership, as well as the “center” of “self-leadership” Most people define “leadership” as downward-directional, but in reality, this direction comprises only 5% of true, comprehensive leadership. My purpose here will be to focus on “peer leadership”, i.e., interpersonal relationships and influence.
