FROM SHADOWS
(For a woman,the shadow of a man is better than the shadow of a wall ... Muslim proverb)

From shadows you came back to me
the ligsht blanching your face like
the moon blazing on some secret desert stone,

Maybe such a great rock edifice, a wall
or wave of weathered outback stone,
might reveal itself when midnight cloud
rolls away from the moon's face too,
and shows the doubly reflected distant
sun's light. This glimpse is all I see
of your smile some nights, as we strive
against unsteady broadband cables,
intermittent signals from satellites.

But from the shades of my late life
you showed yourself to me shyly,
challeging me to guess the thoughts
shadowed behind brightness of your eyes;
accepting in the darkness of towering
shapes of apartment blocks my face
turned to yours-lit by the sun's final
gleams. And then you let the darkness
of my first kiss alight upon the fullness
of your accepting lips.
