The Chinese celebrated the lantern/Moon Fairy festival with Moon cakes, however, there is another significance for this, which is more historic.
It was during the time of the Sung Dynasty, when China was under the rule of the Mongol hordes, the rebels/freedom fighters smuggled their secret messages in mooncakes during the lanten festival. The custom of making and eating the cakes has been followed by the chinese untill today, and by celebrating the festival, it keeps our culture alive.
