But the Chinese did!
One day Tom said to one of his friends,"I'm going to have a holiday in Beiging. But I don't speak Chinese, so I'll go to evening classes and have Chinese lessons for a month before I go."
He studied very hard for a month, and then his holidays began and he went to China.
When he came back a few weeks later,his friend said to him, "Did you have any trouble with your Chinese when you were in Beiging,Tom?"
"No,I didn't have any trouble with it,"ansered Tom."But the Chinese did!"

“没有，我讲中文一点麻烦都没有，”汤姆回答，“但是中国人确实遇到了麻烦！”

A woman was having some trouble with her heart,so she went to see the doctor.He was a new doctor,and did not know her,so he first asked some questions, and one of them was,"How old are you?"
"Well,"she answered,"I don't remember,doctor,but I will try to think."She thought for a minute and then said,"Yes,I remember now,dotor!When I married,I was eighteen years old, and my husband was thirty. Now my husband is sixty, I know. And that is twice thirty. So I am twice eighteen. That is thirty-six, isn't it?

One hot summer day a fox was walking through an orchard. He stopped before a bunch of grapes. They were ripe and juicy.

"I'm just feeling thirsty," he thought. So he backed up a few paces, got a running start, jumped up, but could not reach the grapes.

He walked back. One, two, three, he jumped up again, but still, he missed the grapes.

The fox tried again and again, but never succeeded. At last he decided to give it up.

He walked away with his nose in the air, and said“I am sure they are sour.”

1. there was once an artist whose name was Wen Tong. He was famous for his bamboo drawings. A lot of people asked him for one of his bamboo drawings.

People wondered why Wen Tong could draw so well. Actually, Wen Tong loved bamboo so much he had grown various bamboo around his house. No matter what season it was and no matter whether it was sunny or rainy, he used to go to the bamboo forest to observe how they were growing.

He carefully observed the length and breadth of the bamboo poles as well as the shapes and colors of the leaves. Whenever he found something new, he went back to his study and drew what was in his mind on paper. After a long time, the images of the bamboo in different seasons, under different weather conditions and at different moments were deeply imprinted in his mind. Whenever he stood before the paper and picked up a painting brush, various forms of bamboo came into his mind at once. So, every time he was drawing bamboo he appeared confident and at ease. All the bamboo he drew looked like real.

When people spoke highly of his paintings, he always said modestly that he had just put the images of the bamboo imprinted in his mind in the paper.

the phrase "having the images of bamboo ready in one's bosom" means having plans or designs ready in one's mind before doing a certain job so that its success is guaranteed.
