MY FIRST EXPERIENCE OF PUBLIC SPEAKING
Public speaking was a challenge. When asked to give a twenty-minute speech by my mentor, I was so worried. In the evening before, I repeated those words to get ready. Finally I could not get sleep.
On that day, standing in front of the audience, my legs were shaking. And I heard my voice was trembling. My mentor smiled to encourage me. When I relaxed, I recalled the words. When finishing, my speaking was getting fluent.
The audience applauded loudly. I saw my friends were standing up, showing they were proud of me. Since then I’ve begun to like public speaking.

My First Experience on new year's eve

I didn't expect that the New Year's countdown at the Times Square of New York started from 60 seconds away. It seems to me that ten or twenty seconds are the common manner to countdown it, otherwise, I really doubted whether the crowd could sustain such enthusiasm for so long - maybe when count down to 20 seconds or so, people would feel sort of bored and the rest of the real moment that counts would become less exciting.

However, it turned out that all this is an excessive worry for me. Revelers gathering at the Times Square had been standing in the chilly wind and coldness for hours, waiting for that very moment, some even coming as early as in the afternoon in order to access himself or herself a better position. Without enough enthusiasm, nobody could make a decision to do that. And the experience would also prove that all this waiting and "suffering" got redeemed by the last minute spree.

I am not that kind of person to easily go crazy for something. But on the eve of 2009, at the Times Square with thousands of revelers, I was really moved by people's counting-down altogether, feeling exited and exalted. Despite my cheeks, fingers and toes being frozen, I felt an uncommon warmth as well in my heart at that very moment, when the figure of 2009 appeared flashing in my eyes and the loud and exiting cheering came into my ears. Yelling together with the rest of the people, I didn't forget to take as many pictures as I could, trying to catch every memorable and beautiful scene.

Everyone made his or her own wish at that moment. No matter what, I believe we all share a common wish - let's hope 2009 to be a better year than the past one. Happy New Year!
