财富成功故事：关键要自强自立
人生最大的财富是什么？留给子女的财富是什么？
从古至今，绝大多数的富翁对于财富的处理，一般是全部留给子孙。但是在美国的富翁中，近年来却有一种新的风尚在流行，就是不要留太多的财产给子孙后代，以免他们乐不思蜀，成了扶不起的阿斗。这种风尚的实践者有大名鼎鼎的微软创办人比尔·盖茨、投资家华伦·巴菲特。
现代富翁之所以有这样的观念，可能缘自罗斯·柴德留下的教训。罗斯·柴德是巴比特老一辈的富翁，他把所有的财产都留给了儿子拉斐尔。但拉斐尔在继承遗产两年后被人发现死于纽约一处人行道上，死因是吸食海洛因过度，年仅23岁。
美国卡耐基基金会就曾做过一项调查，在继承15万美元以上财产的子女中，有20％的人放弃了工作，整天沉溺于吃喝玩乐，直到倾家荡产；有的则一生孤独，出现精神问题，或是做出违法乱纪的事来。
的确，人生于天地之间，自立自强才是人生最重要的课题。一代大教育家陶行知老先生有一首诗写得好：“滴自己的血，流自己的汗，自己的事情自己干，靠天靠地靠老子，不算是好汉。”人生最可依赖的是什么？是知识、是智慧、是汗水。人常说“靠人种地满地草，靠人盛饭一碗汤”。父母都不可能依靠一生一世，何况他人？因此，这个世界上最可靠的不是别人，而是自己。
清末封疆大吏左宗棠告老还乡，在长沙大兴土木，打算为子孙后代留下豪华府第。他总是怕工匠偷工减料，便亲自拄着拐杖到工地督工，这儿摸摸，那儿敲敲。有位老工匠看他如此不放心，就说：“大人，放心吧。我活了这么一大把年纪，在长沙城里造了不知多少府第。在我手上造的府第，从来没有倒塌过，但屋主易人却是常有的事。”左宗棠听后，不觉满面羞愧，叹息而去。
同为名臣，林则徐在对待儿孙的问题上就要开明得多。他曾说：“子孙若我，要钱干什么?贤而多财，则损其志；子孙不若我，要钱做什么?愚而多财，益增其过。”为子女留下财富，不如留下更多的知识，后代不一定能保留住财富，但须用知识去创造财富。

The grass on the peak of the mountain laughed at the big tree grown from the valley bottom, and said that “No matter how tall you are, I am always taller than you,haha.”
大树说……. 我是凭自己的力量长成大材的…
The tree replied that “You rely on the peak to appear being high.
But I become tall and strong depending on myself.”
Compared to the grass, the tree is independent. I respect the spirit of the tree.
I want to grow up to be a useful and successful person. What shall I do to make my dream come true? Shall I wholely rely on my family and other people, or take my most effort to succeed?
If I live a rich life only because of my parents’ wealth, I am no successful. That’s not what I want. To become a useful person and to be respected, I need to study hard now. More knowledge can make me more capable and competent. I believe that I can accomplish the successful life as long as I take my most effort.
Dear friends, let’s be confident. If someone says that working hard is meaningless, don't’believe that. If someone tells you not to depend on yourself, ignore it. Though we are grateful for others’ help and support, we must depend on ourselves to make our dream come true.
