The Old Man and the Sea

The old man and the sea & Mrs Dawllway,这也给了我开始看原著的一个契机。

A man can be destroyed but not defeated.

1 He was an old man who fished alone in a boat in the Gulf Stream and he had gone eighty-four days now without taking a fish. In the first forty days a boy had been with him. But after forty days without a fish the boys parents had told him that the old man was now definitely salao, which is the worst form of unlucky, and he finally would be so. The boy had gone at their orders in another boat which caught three good fish the first week. It made the boy sad to see the old man come in each day with his skiff empty and he always went down to help him carry either the coiled lines ...

2 Everything about him was old except his eyes and they were the same color as the sea and were cheerful and undefeated...

3 Most people are heartless about turtles because a turtle’s heart will beat for hours after he has been cut up and butchered. But the old man thought, I have such a heart too and my feet and hands are like theirs.

A man can be destroyed but not defeated”(一个人可以被毁灭但是不能被打倒!)

4 I have half of him, he thought. Maybe I'll have the luck to bring the forward half in. I should have some luck. No, he said. You violated your luck when you went too far outside. "Don't be silly," he said aloud. "You may have much luck yet." "I'd like to buy some if there's any place they sell it," he said. What could I buy it with? he asked himself. Could I buy it with a lost harpoon and a broken knife and two bad hands? "You might," he said.

What could I buy it with?

His eyes are cheerful and undefeated 一样。

Every day is a new day. It is better to be lucky. But I would rather be exact. Then when luck comes you are ready.
