Unit 1

问题：这句话中，upon在这里的用法，是什么作用，表什么意思？

2）The scholar pointed many an angry word at Booker T.Washington.（P8）译为：这位学者对布克华盛顿颇有微词。
问题：其中many 后面可以加an angry word 是为什么？many an angry word 是一句词组“颇有微词”吗？

3）Every company shall appoint an auditor in accordance with the act to audit its accounts.（P9）译为：每个公司都应该指定一名审计员来配合账目审查工作。
问题：这里的“in accordance with act”的意思从翻译中看是“配合”的意思。能分析下吗？因为我查到in accordance with的意思是“与……一致，依照，根据”。

问题：句中哪个英文词语表示“梦”？

问题：“as such speaks with the voice of authority”在这里和“the arbiter of life and death”是并列的吗？如果去掉“the arbiter of life and death”，“as such……”可以直接接在“remain”后面吗？能否分析？

问题：翻译

8）Economy is half the battle of life. It is not so hard to earn money as to spend it well.（P18）译为：节约是生活的关键。挣钱难，会花钱更难。
问题：关于“It is not so hard to earn money as to spend it well”为什么会翻译成“挣钱难，会花钱更难”。他的结构是怎么样的？明明是not so hard to,为什么会被翻译成“难”。

9）The hero is the younger brother, and he has the mix of resentment, rebellion and checkiness shared by a lot of younger siblings. （P19）译为：主人公是弟弟，他有着兄弟姐妹中较小的那个通常具有的怨恨、叛逆和放荡不羁的多重特点。
问题：“shared by”在这里的含义是？还有我不理解的是，为什么翻译成“兄弟姐妹中较小的那个”，从字面上看“a lot of younger siblings”翻译为：许多更年轻的兄弟姐妹。如何正确理解呢？

Answer 1

1）upon 是介词，跟着experimented 来的，用法是be experimented upon
2）many a sth, 有这个固定说法的,表示一个又一个，许多。可以翻译成“颇有微词”
3）这个你理解错误。原文就是in accordance with，然后with 的介词宾语是the act to audit its accounts.
4) 不知道，帮你查查再回答。
5) 本句话里没有梦这个字，应该是为了翻译通顺，根据上下文自己加进来的。
6）不是并列的，也完全不可以代替。as such是“因为这个原因，所以。。。”的意思。as such后面的句子和the doctor remains the arbiter of life and death 互成因果关系。
7）按照最大的DNA编码研究最新成果，普通的大乌鸦已经不再那么普通了。
8）这个翻译是根据原话的意思使用中国人最常说的话翻译过来的。如果按照字面翻译的话，你可能更好理解：“节约是真个生命中一半的奋斗。赚钱并不比花钱更难。” 意思就是，赚钱和节约同等重要，赚钱难，花对钱也一点儿不容易。是not so hard to earn money,不能只看not so hard to.
9)shared by 意思是共同拥有的。。。
“兄弟姐妹中较小的那个”翻译得有点儿模糊。a lot of younger siblings 是泛指所有大家庭中，排行比较靠后的弟弟妹妹们。怨恨、叛逆和放荡不羁是这样的孩子们的通病。

1。upon也可用on， experiment是不及物动词， 加上upon不就相当于及物动词了，关系代词才构成作其宾语啊
2。这是很平常的结构， many a （an）+单数名词=many +复数名词， 你的意思是对的。
3。其实就是“针对。。。”
5。 these intensey powerful mental events 就是暗指梦啊， 不一定非得找到某个对应词， 只是翻译。
6。非并列， 是个整体概念，即为：生死， as such。。。不能直接跟在remain后的，后面是个比喻。
