他住在哪里我不很清楚，只知道他住得离城市很远。
Except for:
ad. 除了(除...外)
例:I can do nothing except for swimming in the dog days.
在三伏天里，除了游泳，我什么事也做不成。
Except 作为介词,后面是不能直接跟句子的.
所以只能选A.(翻译:他除了给我们讲解了那个原理,而且还给我们举了几个例子).
明白了词的用法自然就选出来了.

Besides是“除了这个，还有……”，除了的和没除的两部分都是有的
Except除了的对象是没有的，就是说，“除了……，其他的都有”，除了的部分没有，没除的部分是有的
