This book mainly tells the story of the Nautilus submarine. In 1866, a large monster suspected to be a narwhal was discovered at sea.

They found that the monster was not a narwhal, but a wonderfully constructed submarine.

The submarine was secretly built by Nimo on a desert island in the ocean. Its hull was strong and it used sea water to generate electricity. 

Captain Nimo invited Aronnas to take an underwater trip.They set out from the Pacific Ocean and passed through coral islands, the Indian Ocean, the Red Sea.

the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. They saw many rare animals, plants and strange sights in the sea.

The journey also experienced many dangers, such as stranding, indigenous siege, fighting with sharks, iceberg road closure, Octopus attacks and so on. 

Finally, when the submarine arrived on the Norwegian coast, the three men said goodbye and returned to their hometown.

The cruel repression of the Polish people's uprising against the Czar's dictatorship was a trigger for Verne's creation of "20,000 miles under the sea".

In his novel, he portrays Captain Nimo as a lofty image against the dictatorship of the Czar. 

It is endowed with a strong sense of social responsibility and humanitarianism to express its criticism of reality.

At the beginning of the novel, there was a debate between Verne and publisher Hezel about the character of the hero, Captain Nemo of Nautilus.

Hezel believed that Nimo should be described as a deadly enemy of the slave trade, providing a clear and ideal defense for his relentless attacks on certain ships at sea.

But Verne wanted Nemo to be Polish, and he never forgavently pointed his hatred at the Russian Czar (who had bloodily suppressed a Polish uprising).

But Hezel feared that he would cause diplomatic disagreement, forbidding the book on the profitable Russian market. 

Finally, the authors and publishers gradually compromised.They believed that Nimo's real motivation should be ambiguous to be attractive.

Nimo should be roughly defined as an advocate of freedom and an avenger of oppression. In Mysterious Island, it was announced that he was Prince Dhaka of India.
