以氯铝酸盐及氯化氢改性氯铝酸盐离子液体为催化剂，考察了离子液体的酸性、 2-甲基萘与1-甲基萘不同比率、离子液体的HCl改性等因素对2-MN通过转移烷基化反应合成2,6-二甲基萘的影响，并对反应条件进行了优化。在最佳反应条件下（反应温度为35℃，反应时间为2h,2-MN和均四甲苯摩尔比为1:1），经过HCl改性后的离子液体PyHCl-AlCl3-HCl由于加快了选择性地生成2,6-DMN的反应速度，反应2h，2,6-DMN的选择性为100%的情况下，2-MN的转化率为15.8%。
