There are many variables in exporting. We can alter them in order to achieve the best marketing. These variables include product, presentation, publicity, physical distribution, price and channels. The first-class product should be provided together with its function, its basic design and its qualities, etc.Presentation includes its styling and its packaging. The design elements affect how a product looks rather than how it works.Publicity is to stimulate demand through a variety of techniques, including advertising, trade fair, personal selling and so on.Physical distribution is how we transport and store the product from the seller to the buyer.Price depends on costs. We have to take into account where we sell it,who we sell it to,and our competitor's prices.Channels mean the intermediaries through which we reach the end-user.
If our product is,say, insurance, then personal selling might be the most important element in the marketing mix.If our product is petrol then the most important element might be physical distribution. But shampoo as you can see on TV,may be bought because of heavy advertising,so the most important may be marketing channels.
Exporting means being concerned with people and their needs. That is,being oriented to the needs of customers rather than the needs of products.Exporting may not seem very important if you are selling some basic commodity that everyone needs. But once a basic need has been covered customers become more choosy. They look for alternatives, they want better products, and they are more difficult to satisfy.A satisfied customer is one who is pleased with what he has bought. It is important to know what he needs and what will please him,and when and how his needs are changing, because we must be ready to change our product in the same way.
